West Physics is pleased to be a participant in the 2016 Healthcare Technology and Health Services Trade Mission organized by the United States Department of Commerce and the International Trade Administration (ITA), with support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Department of State, and the organizers of the Saudi-American Healthcare Forum. The mission will take place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait, where fast-growing populations and increasing rates of chronic disease, coupled with quality of care improvement policies, are driving demand for greater healthcare efficiencies and productivity.
Dr. W. Geoffrey West, Ph.D., DABR, CHP, the President and Chief Medical Physicist of West Physics, stated, “All of us at West Physics are enormously honored to be among the 19 respected U.S. companies selected for this important trade mission and we are excited about introducing our high-quality medical and health physics services to these two countries.” Among the other companies selected for the trade mission are such esteemed organizations as Oracle, Honeywell International, Kurt Salmon, Hewlett Packard Enterprises and the University of California – San Diego Health System. “Assuring quality in diagnostic imaging and in radiation safety is an important priority in healthcare delivery worldwide and we look forward to building upon our work to date in the GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] to further that priority,” continued Dr. West.

West Physics was recently selected to perform the x-ray shielding integrity testing for all of the radiology rooms at the brand new Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi. Located on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi is a unique and unparalleled extension of the United States-based Cleveland Clinic. It boasts five major centers of excellence and more than 30 medical and surgical specialties, with North American board certified (or equivalent) physicians dedicated to putting patients first.
West Physics is honored to assist the Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi with ensuring that patients, workers and visitors are properly protected from ionizing radiation; through the expert design of the facility’s lead shielding. “We are truly honored to be the global medical physics company selected to help design this prestigious one-of-a-kind facility,” stated Dr. W. Geoffrey West, Ph.D., DABR, CHP, President and Chief Medical Physicist of West Physics. Continued Dr. West: “We are excited to begin the offering of our services in the United Arab Emirates, and eventually its GCC neighbors, with this unique project.”
The Cleveland Clinic – Abu Dhabi is an engineering marvel, predicted to be one of the most ambitious and expensive single hospital builds in history. The hospital is planned to have 364 beds (expandable to 490), five clinical floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels, and thirteen floors of inpatient units for critical and acute patients. The amenities are completely state-of-the-art, as is the standard of care in this physician-led hospital.
