Dr. West has an extensive amount of experience in a broad range of medical and health physics areas. After service with both the Department of Energy and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in a variety of technical and regulatory roles, Dr. West spent several years in private practice with Phoenix Technology Corporation as a Senior Medical Physicist and Director of MRI Operations. Dr. West now operates West Physics, helping clients with their physics needs throughout the United States. Among his activities and accomplishments, Dr. West has been the recipient of the NRC’s Special Act Award; has participated in U.S. nuclear diplomatic negotiations at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria; has delivered the keynote address to the National Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors; has presented numerous seminars on diagnostic imaging quality assurance and radiation dose reduction; and is the holder of a United States Patent.
In addition to his many other responsibilities, Dr. West serves as an advisor to the Joint Commission on image quality and radiation safety issues, most recently providing technical advice related to the new 2015 Joint Commission Imaging Standards. He serves as the Chair of the AAPM Professional Survey Subcommittee and also serves on the External Advisory Board of the University of Michigan’s School of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (currently the top-ranked graduate nuclear engineering program in the U.S.).
Dr. West is originally from Atlanta, Georgia.
